Start boxing up the books: The Orcutt branch of the Santa Maria Public Library is moving to a new location. On Dec. 1, the library will close its doors at 1157 E. Clark Ave., and reopen on Dec. 8 in its new, expanded facility in Old Town Orcutt’s Union Plaza, at 175 S. Broadway.

The new facility, which has been in the planning stages for several years, is nearly twice the size of the current location. The city of Santa Maria partnered with the Santa Maria Public Library, The Friends of the Orcutt Library, and Santa Barbara County to make the move a reality.

There will be a grand opening event on Dec. 8 at 10 a.m., featuring a ribbon-cutting ceremony and refreshments provided by the Friends of the Orcutt Library.

The Orcutt branch library hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. The library is closed on Fridays and Sundays.

For more information, call the Santa Maria Public Library at 925-0994, Ext. 321.
