Eight Santa Maria students will get new computers during the annual Business Appreciation Luncheon held by the Santa Maria Valley Industry Education Council and the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce.
The Orcutt Union, Santa Maria-Bonita, Santa Maria Joint Union High, and Guadalupe Union school districts each identified two students who would benefit from having a computer to help with schoolwork.
Distribution of the computers is made possible by a joint venture between the two organizations, called Computer Connections. More than 190 students and their families have received new computer packages over the past 11 years through the partnership. The Santa Barbara County Office of Education oversees the education council and its programs.
The event is also an opportunity to thank local companies, nonprofit agencies, and individuals whose donations help educators set the foundation for student success in the valley. This yearās event theme is All-American Partnerships and it will take place at the Santa Maria Elks Lodge on Sept. 11 from noon to 1:30 p.m.
For reservations, contact Marcy Lariz at the Chamber of Commerce by calling 925-2403, Ext. 816, or e-mailing her at marcy@santamaria.com.
