Any student who’s ever taken an Advanced Placement (AP) class knows that the coursework is often challenging and time consuming. Studying for the AP exams isn’t a picnic either.
That’s why St. Joseph High School is pleased to announce its 2011 AP scholars. Each May, AP exams are administered to St. Joseph High School students in five academic disciplines: foreign language, English, mathematics, science, and social studies. These exams are evaluated on a five-point scale, and most universities will grant college credit for scores of three or higher.
According to a press release from the school, students normally take one or two AP courses; some take three; occasionally a student will take all seven courses offered.
The College Board—an official college admissions body—recognizes students who take three or more exams and who score a three or higher on each exam.
The St. Joe scholars recognized for the 2011 school year are:
• AP Scholar (granted to students who receive scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams): Jessica Bonilla, Molly Connolly, Kevin Hays, Bobby Jones, Joseph Lewis, and Alyssa Moses.
• AP Scholar with Honor (granted to students who receive an average of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams): Daniel Becerra, Caitlin Brandt, Angelene Dascanio, Elena Garcia, Vanessa Pulido, and Brittany Strahan.
• AP Scholar with Distinction (granted to students who receive an average of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher in five of these exams): Joshua Hernandez, Sean McCormack, Divesh Patel, Jayna Patel, and Shayli Swaim.
