War is a devastating experience no matter who wins or loses. For the American veterans who serve in the military, war is not necessarily anticipated, but it is something for which they’re always training. Whether or not they come back physically or emotionally injured, those who fought are left with an indelible scar on their humanity.Ā

Luckily, there is help when they come home. One group that’s working to rehabilitate veterans is the Mad Bomberz Car Club, which hosts an annual car show in Nipomo each July. Now in its eighth year, the show raises money for Ampsurf, an organization that helps rehabilitate veterans with disabilities through adaptive surfing and other activities.

It’s not a random partnership.Ā

ā€œWe have a few club members that served our country in the military and some of us have family members who have served—some even died for our country,ā€ said Mad Bomberz Car Club co-president PJ Baray. ā€œOur club is proud to give to this worthy organization.ā€Ā

At the car show, which is on July 10, expect to see classic cars, new models, hot rods, rat rods, muscle cars, custom trucks and bikes, and even European cars.Ā

Many of the cars that come are local, with some arriving from as far away as Fresno and Palm Springs. The show is described as a family event, Baray said.Ā

ā€œThis makes us a respectable car club that is very family-orientated and committed to giving back to our community while doing what we love to do,ā€ Baray said.Ā

Other than cars, there will be one of the largest raffles around, Baray said, and a variety of vendors selling everything from hand-crafted items to food. You can’t have a car show without music; the show will feature DJ Darkness, who’ll be spinning records until 4 p.m.Ā

As co-president, Baray’s job is to make sure everything goes smoothly with car owners, vendors, and general admission. Along with the rest of the club, he’ll be up and ready to go at 5 a.m.Ā

ā€œWe don’t stop until it’s done,ā€ Baray said.Ā

The Mad Bomberz Car Show will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 10 at Nipomo Regional Park, located at 223 Pomeroy Road in Nipomo. If you want to showcase your car at the show, there’s still time. Registration is $30 and cars will be showing up between 9 and 11 a.m. For more information, call 406-4340.Ā
