Didn’t make it to London for Will and Kate’s nuptials? It’s not too late to get a glimpse of royalty. On June 11, the city of Solvang will roll out the red carpet for Consort Henrik, Prince of Denmark.

Henrik, who visited Solvang 35 years ago in 1976 with his wife, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, is returning once again to celebrate Solvang’s 100th year as a city and, coincidentally, his 77th birthday.
Henrik and his wife will be visiting Washington, D.C., and New York June 6 through 10. The prince will then journey to Solvang on his own for the festivities before continuing on to Stanford University.
Henrik will make his initial appearance on June 11 at Solvang Park to celebrate his birthday, and to dedicate Centennial Plaza on Alisal Road. The party will take place from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m., and will feature live music from the Valley Wind Ensemble, birthday cake, presentations, and a short speech from the prince himself. This event is open to the public.
Later that evening, from 7 to 10 p.m., Rusack Vineyards on Ballard Canyon Road will host a dinner celebration. According to city officials, the prince will greet guests in a receiving line.
The dinner reception runs 7 to 8 p.m.; wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served. New West Catering will provide the dinner. The meal is open to the public, but seating is limited. Business attire is recommended, and tickets cost $100.
