The Santa Maria Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred in the downtown area of Santa Maria on the evening of May 20.

At approximately 9:30 p.m., according to the SMPD, officers were dispatched to the area of Broadway and Enos, where minutes earlier the reporting party told police they were heading northbound in their vehicle when an unidentified vehicle pulled up next to them and fired multiple bullets at the would-be victims.

No one was hurt, according to SMPD’s Cpl. Louis Tanore, though the suspects fled before police arrived. The suspects are likely involved in gangs, but Tanore added the police are unsure at this point if the incident is gang-related.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is requested to contact Sgt. Rob Morris at 928-3781, Ext. 1274.
