Glenn Goldin, a spokesman for Unity of Purpose for our Kids, served board member Will Smith with a notice of intent to recall at the Santa Maria-Bonita School District Board of Education meeting on May 16.
Additionally, the school board voted 4-1 (with Smith dissenting) to create an ad hoc committee to investigate Smith’s behavior. The decision stemmed from a formal letter written by board president Linda Cordero calling for Smith’s censure.
The letter cited Smith’s unethical behavior at meetings and repeated violations of board bylaws and the Ralph M. Brown–as well as racist and sexist comments made to board members and district staff–as reasons for censure.
The committee is expected to return before the board with its findings later this month. For more information about the school board drama, read this week’s news story, “Total recall?”
