The Santa Maria High School baseball team was honored June 23 at the Downtown Fridays event for its successful season. The team won the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Southern Section Division 6 baseball title, making it the first Santa Maria High School team to win since 1957.
With their outstanding pitching and strong offense, the team earned an overall record of 21-11-1. Head coach Rick Hebert was named the CIF Southern Section Coach of the Year while Paul Navarro was named the divisionās Player of the Year.
Mayor Alice Patino attended the event and thanked Head Coach Rick Hebert, along with the assistant coaches Joey Orozco, Alex Lopez, Omar Gonzales, and Marcus Lyghts, for their success with the team and their role as coaches, teachers, and mentors.
