Some Santa Maria streets will be getting a sprucing up thanks to the city’s 2009 street overlay and reconstruction project, according to a press release from the city.

Ā

CalPortland Construction of Santa Maria has been contracted by the city to overlay Cook Street with fresh asphalt from Pine Street to Railroad Avenue. The company will also resurface Stratford Avenue and Depot Street from Polk Street to Grant Avenue.

Ā

The $343,000 project is expected to take six weeks to complete. During construction, there will be temporary lane closures and detours set up to route traffic around the construction zones. Sidewalks will also be closed in areas where ramps for people with disabilities are being replaced.

Ā

The city is reminding that motorists to drive slowly through the construction zones and obey all temporary traffic control signs and flaggers. Motorists are also encouraged to find alternate routes to avoid congestion on Cook Street.

Ā

The project is separate from the city’s annual street maintenance chip seal program, which is set to begin later this fall. About 160 street segments will be treated as part of that project.
