The San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors voted on March 14 to uphold its denial of Phillips 66’s proposed oil train project, which would have run through Santa Barbara County.
The SLO County Planning Commission denied the project in October 2016, which Phillips 66 quickly appealed. On March 7, the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors voted to write a letter to the SLO County board in continued support of the denial.
SLO County’s board voted 3-1 to uphold the denial, with 1st District Supervisor John Peschong recusing himself for conflict of interest and 5th District Supervisor Debbie Arnold casting the dissenting vote.
Linda Krop, chief counsel for the Environmental Defense Center, applauded the board’s decision in a press release.
“The board’s action was the right decision and the only possible decision if the goal is to keep our communities and environment safe,” Krop said in the release.
