While nothing may compare with crunching through a field of fresh snow to choose your own Douglas fir, winning an already decorated tree and some gifts to go with it comes mighty close.

Altrusa International of the Central Coast is descending on Santa Maria Town Center for its sixth annual Festival of Trees, the group’s largest local fundraiser. Companies and individuals donate or sponsor trees to decorate, and furnish them with toys, household goods, decorations, and more. Tickets cost $1 each—buyers then drop them in the drawing box for their tree of choice.

The Festival of Trees opens on Nov. 28 and runs through Dec. 13, and will be open daily during the mall’s operating hours. The drawing is set for Dec. 13. Winners need not be present to win and will be notified by phone, but must pick up their trees by Dec. 14.
