Responding to last month’s devastating oil spill in the Gulf Coast, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenneger said at a press conference on May 3 he no longer supports expanding oil drilling of the California coastline.

Originally, Schwarzenegger proposed using funds from the controversial Tranquillon Ridge project to keep state parks open. The governor will now have to find approximately $100 million for state parks in this year’s budget.

ā€œIt will not happen here in California,ā€ Schwarzenegger said at the press conference, referring to the massive oil spill now polluting waterways in the southern United States.

ā€œIf I have a choice between the $100 million and what I see in the Gulf of Mexico, I’d rather just figure out how to make up for that $100 million,ā€ he said at the conference.
