More than 200 incoming freshmen will receive an early welcome to Pioneer Valley High School on Aug. 7 as the seventh annual Link Crew orientation kicks off at 8 a.m. in the school gym.

Junior and senior leaders (more than 150) will divide up those fresh faces into small groups to give them a sneak peek at their new environment.

Teacher Marcie Guerra believes the outreach allows the new students to start forming a connection with the campus before school begins.

“It’s a day of fun where they can meet upper classmen, see the campus, and learn a little more about PV,” Guerra said in a press release. “The orientation is a great way to alleviate the stress that comes along with starting a new school.”

The student leaders will also mentor the younger students throughout the year. The press release said their commitment ensures that new students pay it forward to others in the future.
