Santa Ynez Valley Cottage Hospital is continuing to hold free Nutrition and Diabetes Wellness classes every Wednesday.
Clinical Dietician Stacey Bailey said she teaches the classes to provide nutrition education to the community.
āThereās not as much of that available here in the valley as there is in Santa Barbara,ā Bailey said.
Bailey began teaching the classes in spring 2012 and tailored them to cardiac rehabilitation patients, but has expanded to include more. The first week of every monthās class is focused on diabetes, and each subsequent week she tries to bring a new topic to the nutrition tableāone that wasnāt taught in previous weeks.
She provides inpatient and outpatient dietary management and counseling services as part of the Cottage Health System and also assists with meal and menu planning at the Santa Ynez hospital.
Upcoming class topics are: Feb. 20, Stress, Diet, and WeightāWhatās the Connection; Feb. 27, The Caffeine Controversy; March 6, Sugar Blues; March 20, Superfoods; and March 27, Dietary Fats and Cholesterol.
The classes are free and open to the public Wednesdays from noon to 1 p.m. in the front conference room at the hospital, 2050 Viborg Road in Solvang. For more information, contact Bailey at 688-6431, Ext. 72351.
