Santa Maria’s Future Farmers of America are racking up awards as they push through state competitions.
Pioneer Valley High School students earned FFA honors at the Golden State degree and proficiency award ceremonies on March 24. Students earn FFA degrees through classes, working more than 500 hours, and a record of leadership and community activities.
Nelly Guerra, Reanna Salazar, Jesus Valencia Jr., Justice Bright, Enrique Sanchez, Sarah Hamel, and Dario Castillo were awarded their FFA degrees at the ceremony. Guerra was recognized for her work in diversified crop production with more than 60 fruit trees.
Santa Maria High School’s FFA took top spots during the FFA career development day at Modesto Junior College in late March, and at FFA field days at CSU Chico on March 9 and at UC Davis on March 2.
The agronomy team nabbed second place in Fresno with Noel Garcia, Richard Osorio, Alejandro Iniguez, Demitrio Munoz, and Armando Nambo. The American equestrian judging team finished second overall in Chico and third in Davis. Valerie Cans took third as an individual in Davis.
Pioneer Valley, Ernest Righetti, and Santa Maria High FFA students will head to Fresno for their next conference competitions on April 19.
