Water. Everybody uses it. It flows from faucets and down drains—all of which costs money. But how much money? That depends.
The City of Santa Maria Utilities Department will be host to a March 23 public workshop to discuss proposed water and sewer rate increases. Residents received notices in their utility bills throughout February.
According to a press release from the city, the proposed increases “would be used to operate and maintain the city’s water systems.” If the suggestion becomes reality, the new rates would go into effect on July 1.
The Santa Maria City Council scheduled a public hearing regarding the potential rate increase for April 21 at 6:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.
The upcoming workshop is set for March 23 at 6:30 p.m., also in the City Council Chambers at 110 E. Cook St.
