A man who was shot during the early morning hours of June 9 in Santa Maria also ended up getting arrested, Santa Maria Police Department Sgt. Eligio Lara told the Sun.Ā
Lara said the man, whose name isnāt being released, walked into the emergency room of Marian Regional Medical Center shortly before 5 a.m. that same day after getting shot in the area of Main and Depot streets.Ā
The injuries were non-life threatening, Lara said, and the man was treated and released from the hospital a short while later.Ā
The man wouldnāt provide any information except for his name, and police later arrested him after an investigation for an unrelated parole violation, Lara added.
āWe didnāt get much information from him,ā Lara told the Sun. āWe didnāt want to release his name because obviously heās also a shooting victim.ā
Itās the second shooting in less than a week following a several-month lull in shootings in Santa Maria. On July 4, 23-year-old Bernardino DeJesus was shot and killed in the 400 block of N. Oakley Avenue. Another victim, a teenager identified as DeJesusā brother and whose name hasnāt been released, was also shot, but is expected to survive.Ā
The July 4 homicide was the first in nearly six months. Itās the seventh homicide of the year. In January alone, Santa Maria experienced six homicides.
