One Santa Maria teenager was arrested after three suspects in a car drove around the northwest part of the city, allegedly shooting at car windows with a pellet gun on Feb. 11, according to the Santa Maria Police Department. Police said one of the suspects shot into a vehicle that was occupied by a father and his two children.
According to the department, more than 25 cars had their windows damaged in the shooting spree, which began in the afternoon and ended at midnight. A short while later, around 1:30 a.m., officers from the Santa Maria Police Department spotted a car matching a description received earlier, with the three suspects sitting inside. When the police approached, the car allegedly took off and slammed into a parked car. According to the press release, the three suspects took off on foot, but one was caught.
Anissa M. Cabanas, 19, of Santa Maria was located and arrested on Feb. 12 just before 2 a.m. She was booked into jail on suspicion of charges related to vandalism. Because her alleged accomplices shot into an occupied vehicle, police are requesting additional charges against Cabanas, but none had been filed before the Sun went to press.
The other suspects havenāt been identified, and police are still looking for them.
Cabanas was released from Santa Barbara County Jail on Feb. 12 on a $20,000 bond. Her next court appearance is set for March 4 at 8:30 a.m. in Department 9 at the Santa Maria courthouse.
