About 90 Santa Maria Joint Union High School District students were honored during the Sept. 10 school board meeting for getting perfect scores on a state academic exam.
The district’s special certificates were awarded to sophomores and seniors from Ernest Righetti, Santa Maria, and Pioneer Valley high schools who dominated the California High School Exit Examination. The scores—achieved in English and math—help determine the district’s state ranking, and passing the exit exam is a requirement for high school graduation.
Assistant Superintendent of Instruction John Davis said in a press release that the test scores were outstanding achievements.
“We celebrate their exceptional degree of focus and attention to this important exam,” Davis said in the press release.
