The fifth annual Teen Cardboard Boat Regatta will take place on Sept. 13 at the Abel Maldonado Community Youth Center from 1 to 5 p.m.
It’s a free event hosted by the Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department that is open to all teens in junior high and high school. Certificates will be awarded for best time, best sink, most spirited, and best decorated. Participants will design a boat entirely out of cardboard and duct tape that, hopefully, will float, dart, and dash 50 meters across the pool to the finish line.
All the necessary supplies will be provided at the event.
