Josh Mendez of the Santa Maria High School Future Farmers of America club won the Round Robin Showmanship award, and showed the Supreme Champion Meat Goat and the Reserve Champion Market Sheep at the recent Santa Barbara County Fair.

The round robin is an event that requires exhibitors to show pigs, cows, sheep, and goats. Mendez was among many fellow Santa Maria Joint Union High School District FFA students who took home livestock awards from the county fair.

Adrian Herrera of Pioneer Valley High School showed the grand champion FFA Rabbit Meat Pen. Susana Ayala Motta of Santa Maria High showed the Grand Champion FFA Turkey Meat Pen.

Marc Debernardi, advisor for the Santa Maria High FFA, said in a press release that all FFA students take home life-long skills when they raise livestock for the fair, including learning how to work with other students and being responsible for something other than themselves.
