Schools in the Santa Maria-Bonita School District have been getting recognition for teacher and student achievements.
According to Maggie White, public information officer for the district, Veronica Tadeo, an English teacher at Fesler Junior High School, was recently named Outstanding Teacher for 2016 by the Computer Using Educators of Santa Barbara County (CUE) for her work. In a press release, White said that CUE cited Tadeo’s daily integration of technology in her classroom as just one of the attributes that makes her an outstanding 21st century educator.
El Camino Junior High School seventh grader Andrei Josh Villalobos and eighth grader Jesus Gonzales both won the regional essay contest for the Navy Fleet Reserve Association. This year’s essay was “What the U.S. flag means to me.” Both students’ essays will now go to the national level competition. Last year, El Camino student Juan Brisano placed third at the national level and received a $1,000 scholarship.
