The Santa Maria-Bonita School District Food Service Department recently received a $25,000 grant, which will be used to install new double convection ovens in the cafeteria kitchens at two local schools. Adam and Robert Bruce elementary schools are expected to receive the new ovens sometime in February.

The grant came from the Orfalea Foundation’s ā€œCool Foodā€ initiative, which calls for the distribution of healthy, innovative school meals in Central Coast schools, and encourages children to make healthy food choices throughout their lives.

ā€œThe new double convection ovens will cook faster and more energy efficiently,ā€ Food Service supervisor and grant author Jeanie Steller said in a release. ā€œThe ovens are also larger and can hold more food at once.ā€

The new ovens will allow kitchen staff to prepare more meals from scratch
