Parents interested in having their kindergartners enrolled in the Santa-Maria Bonita School District’s new Dual Language Immersion program will have the opportunity to attend one of four upcoming meetings about the program.

An English/Spanish Dual Immersion program is slated to begin at the kindergarten level at the district’s newest school—recently named Roberto and Dr. Francisco Jiménez Elementary School. Parent meetings will be held on April 21, April 28, May 5, and May 11 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the district office, 708 South Miller.

According to information sent out by the district, the dual immersion program will start with one or two kindergarten classes at the new school, and students will learn to read, write, speak, listen, and think in both English and Spanish as they move up through the grade levels.

The program will be made up of children whose parents choose to participate, and it’s open to incoming kindergarten students from throughout the Santa Maria-Bonita School District, not just those within the Jiménez School boundary. It’s open to all students regardless of the language spoken at home.

Space in the program is extremely limited. Applications will only be available at the meetings. Parents interested in the program are required to attend one of the informational meetings. The program at Jiménez School will be the first Dual Language Immersion program in the district.
