Incoming freshman will find out what life at Righetti High School is all about later this summer.

The students are taking part in the JumpStart Academy, a transition program that is designed to ensure that young people from feeder schools are prepared and successful.Ā

The two-week 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. experience starts July 18 and wraps up July 29. About 50 kids have signed up so far, but there is room for a few more.

In a press release, Geri Coats, a member of the teaching staff said, ā€œStudents who attend the JumpStart Academy have a great start on high school, building academic and social confidence, gaining peer connections, and we have a lot of fun.ā€Ā

The program allows the new students to get to know the campus, meet staff and faculty members, and receive introductions to academic, athletic, and social programs. They also will work on ā€œdusting off the academic cobwebsā€ and improving skills in reading comprehension, academic writing, and math, Coats added.

A parent night and a speaker from UCSB are part of the academy too. The parent night focuses on how to support students at home, use the student information system known as Aeries, tablet deployment, and other information.Ā

The program is funded by the California Academic Partnership Program.
