Trying to multiply $1,000 by three is a feat Rice Elementary School fourth-graders are attempting to complete March 10 through 17 using the Donors Choose fundraising site—but before Michael Muscio’s class gets too far ahead of itself, students have to wrangle more than 50 people to donate $20.

If that $1,000 or more can be raised, the Donors Choose corporate sponsors will contribute another $2,000 to the total. The philanthropic organization is run through a website that lets individuals to easily donate to schools and student projects across the country.

Muscio said in a press release that the $2,000 bonus is a one-week program that he recently learned about.

ā€œThe money would be an amazing boost to the projects we have planned,ā€ Muscio said in the release.

The money would be used to bring environmental advocate Julia Butterfly Hill to the school to talk to students about protecting ecosystems for future generations. Funding would also be used for outdoor projects that include planting trees.
