The 580-acre development with a sports field, walking trails, bike paths, and, of course, houses, is now open for business in Orcutt. Western Pacific Land Group, the developer behind Rice Ranch, held a grand opening on June 7 and, according to a news release, about 2,000 people turned out to tour the new housing development.

The property boasts more than 300 acres of preserved open space, and a 26-acre sports field. Seven model homes are open for viewing, including one- and two-story models. The houses are priced from $499,000 to $680,000 and come in different styles, including Spanish, craftsman, farmhouse, or Monterey.

To tour the Rice Ranch housing development, take Highway 101 to Clark Avenue and follow the signs or call 938-0626 for more information. Rice Ranch also has a Web site at www.riceranchcommunity.com.
