Join the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians for a weekend of fun, food, and healing at the 16th annual Intertribal Pow-Wow at the Live Oak Campground on Oct. 1 and 2.
Though powwows aren’t traditionally part of Chumash culture, other Native American tribes have gathered for decades to dance, sing, socialize, and heal.
“The Intertribal Pow-Wow is our largest cultural event. It is host to hundred of tribes from across the United States,” tribe chairman Vincent Armenta said in a press release.
Highlights of the event include dance and drum competitions, a healing circle, and food and vendor booths.
This year’s event is co-chaired by tribal member Dominica Valencia and tribal elder Elaine Schneider, and is dedicated to American veterans.
The Live Oak Campground is in the Los Padres National Forest between San Raphael and Santa Ynez mountains, and features camping sites, large oaks, wildflowers, and natural wildlife.
Event admission and camping are free, but parking costs $5.
