• On Sept. 11, the Vandenberg Village Library Speakers Series will feature a forum for candidates in the Vandenberg Village Community Service District race. Local resident Dianne Owens will moderate; candidates are Charles Blair, Robert Bumpass, and Tony Fox. The forum starts at 6:30 p.m. at the library, 3755 Constellation Road, Lompoc.
• State Sen. Hannah-Beth Jackson’s (D-Santa Barbara) bill to ban offshore oil drilling in an area of the Santa Barbara Channel known as Tranquillon Ridge stalled on the Assembly Floor Aug. 26, effectively killing the bill for the year. Legislation from this year’s session was due on the governor’s desk by Aug. 31.
