Hilda Zacarias, the sole Democratic candidate for the 33rd State Assembly District seat, recently won the 2010 Roosevelt Hamer Democratic Values Award. The award is presented annually to a local elected official ā€œwho has excelled at growing and supporting Democratic Party grassroots efforts,ā€ according to the Santa Barbara County Democratic Party. ā€œHilda is a Latina and Harvard MBA who . . . has never forgotten her humble roots,ā€ Santa Maria Democratic Club member Roger Hart said in a press release. ā€œDuring her tenure on the Santa Maria City Council, not only does she always put people first, but she has shown grace, humility, and has never flinched when fighting injustice.ā€ In accepting the award, Zacarias said: ā€œIt is an honor to accept this on behalf of others who believe in the fundamental basis of our democracy – participatory governance.ā€ For more information about Zacarias’s campaign, visit hildazacarias.com.
