• On Feb. 26, Rep. Lois Capps (D-Santa Barbara) introduced the Hallways to Health Act, legislation that would provide federal support for high-quality comprehensive health care and mental health services to students at School-Based Health Centers (SBHC) across the country.

The legislation would improve the delivery of School-Based Health Center services by expanding access to community health workers, tele-health services, and provide technical assistance to improve care in medically underserved areas. The bill would also ensure that all public health insurance programs reimburse SBHC providers for services covered by Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

Capps originally authored SBHC legislation in 2009, which became law as part of the 2010 Affordable Care Act. This bill builds on that law.
