• Responding to input from area businesses, Assemblyman Sam Blakeslee (R-San Luis Obispo) and the California Chamber of Commerce have partnered to author legislation that will improve the economic impact analysis of proposed state regulations. At a Small Business Jobs Forum organized by Blakeslee on April 17 in San Luis Obispo, local employers expressed frustration over key government policies and over-regulation of business. “Our local auto dealerships, restaurants, Realtors, builders, and farmers provided wrenching stories about how unaccountable bureaucracies are smothering their businesses,” Blakeslee said in a press release. “We need these businesses to survive, and frankly to thrive, if we’re going to put people back to work and have the kinds of schools and community services we all value.” Blakeslee’s AB 1107 requires regulatory bodies to create advisory committees and assess the economic impacts of certain rules and regulations on the state’s small businesses. “AB 1107 is one of Cal Chamber’s ‘Job Creator’ bills,” Jason Schmelzer, policy director for the California Chamber of Commerce, said in the release. “This bill will reduce the likelihood that poorly designed regulations will be adopted and reveal the true cost to California businesses and the economy.”
