The supplemental Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) for the Cold Spring Canyon Bridge Suicide Barrier Project on State Route 154 is available for public viewing, Caltrans announced earlier this month.
Caltrans completed the supplemental report after a Santa Barbara County Superior Court judge ruled that the organization violated the California Environmental Quality Act by not including certain mitigation measures before circulating its original DEIR. The case stemmed from a writ of mandate filed by the civic group Friends of the Bridge, which aims to protect the historic and aesthetic qualities of the bridge. Dozens of people have leapt from the bridge to their deaths since it was built in the 1960s.
The report can be obtained at the Caltrans District 5 Office, 50 Higuera St., in San Luis Obispo, and the Solvang Branch Library, 1745 Mission Drive, in Solvang. Itās also available online at dot.ca.gov/dist05/projects/sb_cold_springs/index.html.
A public meeting will be held on Jan. 5 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the San Marcos High School cafeteria at 4750 Hollister Ave. in Santa Barbara. The public can submit written comments until Jan. 24, 2011, to Caltrans.
