• Feel compelled to serve the city of Santa Maria? Local officials are now seeking representatives for several boards and committees. Applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. on Dec. 30:
• The All-America City Committee: Two at-large and one youth/education appointments will be made for two-year terms. This committee works to enhance the civic pride of the community through partnerships with the community. It meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 5:30 p.m.
• The Code Compliance Board: Three appointments will be made for two-year terms. The board determines whether ordinance violations constitute a public nuisance and implements penalties. It meets on the Thursday after the second Tuesday of the month at 4 p.m.
• Landmark Committee: One appointment will be made for a three-year term. This five-member committee advises the City Council on the preservation and designation of historical landmarks. It meets the second Tuesday of each month at 4 p.m.
• The planning Commission: Two appointments will be made for a four-year term or conterminous with nominating council member’s term. This commission advises the City Council on planning matters, and meets the first and third Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m.
• Recreation and Parks: Two appointments will be made for a four-year term or conterminous with nominating councilmember’s term. This commission advises the City Council on recreation and parks operations and activities. It meets the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m.
• Santa Maria Community Television Board: One appointment will be made for a two-year term. The board sets policies and regulations for public and governmental access television. It meets no less than two times per year, on an “as-needed” basis.
