Earlier this month, the California State Assembly passed a legislation package to address the state’s water shortage, including measures on water conservation, groundwater monitoring, and a finance measure to build reliable water storage. In a release to the media, California Farm Bureau Federation president Doug Mosebar said the bills represent real progress toward meeting the long-term water challenges facing the state’s family farmers and ranchers. “There is still much work to do, but the Legislature and the governor have recognized the key elements needed to achieve long-term solutions to our state’s water problems. We appreciate the governor’s persistence in pressing for water development and the efforts by legislators to finalize the package,” Mosebar said. “To fix our broken water system, we must add new water storage both aboveground and underground; we must improve our ability to move water; we must protect the water rights that people depend on; and we must enhance the delta ecosystem.”
The Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association PAC has endorsed Santa Maria Republican Etta Waterfield in her campaign for the open 33rd Assembly District seat. “Protecting Proposition 13 is essential to keeping property taxes from consuming homeowners’ budgets,” Howard Jarvis President Jon Coupal said in a press release. “Etta Waterfield has taken a firm stance to protect Proposition 13 and to oppose any attempts to raise taxes on hard working Californians. … Now more than ever, we must elect representatives who stand firm against higher taxes and ever-increasing government spending. That’s why we’re endorsing Etta Waterfield for Assembly.” The Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association joins National Tax Limitation Committee President Lew Uhler, California Sen. Tony Strickland, and dozens of other Republican leaders in supporting Waterfield in her bid for Assembly. Waterfield is one of four Republicans running for the position, which will be vacated by current Sen. Sam Blakeslee in 2010 because of term limits.
