Santa Maria City Council member Mike Cordero announced recently in a press release his decision to endorse candidate Terri Zuniga for a seat on the Santa Maria City Council. “Terri knows this community well and has spent her life serving those in need. Her ability to reach out to youth and families in crisis to find solutions will be a tremendous asset in helping to build a stronger and healthier community,” Cordero said. Zuniga has lived in Santa Maria for 50 years. She currently serves as supervisor for the District Attorney’s Office Victim Witness Program. Some of her other endorsements include the Santa Maria Police Officers Association, District Attorney Joyce Dudley, SEIU Local 620, and outgoing City Council member Hilda Zacarias.
• Santa Maria City Council incumbent Alice Patino has also announced endorsements from local public officials in her reelection campaign, including California Sen. Sam Blakeslee, 5th District Supervisor Joe Centeno, District Attorney Joyce Dudley, Santa Maria Police Chief Danny Macagni, and Guadalupe Mayor Lupe Alvarez. Patino was first appointed to the City Council in 2000. She’s served a total of three and a half terms on the council, with her last election in 2006. She’s an active member of the Rotary Club of Santa Maria, the Santa Maria Valley Republicans, and Fighting Back Santa Maria Valley.
