Santa Maria Valley Republicans Inc. is inviting members of the public to attend its monthly membership meeting on Aug. 22 at 5 p.m. at Ambrosia Restaurant, 122 E. Boone St., in Santa Maria. All Republican candidates for Santa Maria City Council have been invited to speak and take questions from the audience. Cost is $25, which includes a buffet of pot roast and chicken, vegetables, salad, bread, coffee, tea, and homemade pineapple upside down cake. Wine and beer are also available for purchase. Seating is limited, so the group requested people interested in attending the meeting call 928-2955 for reservations.

Das Williams (D-Santa Barbara) recently announced that his campaign for the 35th District State Assembly seat has been endorsed by the Peace Officers Research Association of California (PORAC). ā€Øā€Øā€œIt’s an honor to be endorsed by California’s rank-and-file police officers, deputy sheriffs, probation officers, and other public safety professionals,ā€ Williams said in a press release. ā€œThese men and women risk their lives every day for our communities, and I will do everything I can to continue to honor their work and contributions in the State Assembly.ā€ 

PORAC is the state’s largest rank-and-file law enforcement organization, representing 62,000 sworn public safety officers from 890 local and regional public safety associations.
