Each year, lives are lost and millions of dollars in repairs are incurred as a result of excavation crews inadvertently digging into pipelines. Avoiding those accidents will be the topic of the Pipeline Group’s annual “Public Education—Contractor Awareness Program” on Oct. 12 at the Historic Santa Maria Inn.
A free, catered breakfast will be available for people involved in excavation activities in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties. Following the breakfast, a brief safety program will stress the importance of accident prevention by identifying pipeline and utility rights of way, use of on-call systems, and the importance of working with pipeline and utility companies to safely excavate in the vicinity of underground facilities.
