Pioneer Valley High School is adding green to its school colors, thanks to funding from State Farm California’s Environmental Grant Program. The school received a $5,000 grant at a check presentation on March 2.
The grant will go toward any student-led programs that focus on efforts
benefiting the community and the
environment.
“I am very excited to bring this new project to Pioneer Valley High School,” said Riccardo Magni, who heads the science department at Pioneer Valley and wrote the grant. “The high school students will now have opportunities they otherwise would not have had because of the generosity and vision of State Farm.”
The goal for the project is to buy enough probe ware and interfaces for graphing calculators; in addition, the advanced placement biology and environmental science classes will monitor the water quality at River Oaks Park.
Local State Farm Agent Donna Randolph said, “State Farm is committed to advancing education and these environmental initiatives in driving, recycling, promoting healthy lifestyles, or community outreach.”
Pioneer Valley is just one of five schools to receive the grant from State Farm. Other schools in California that received the grant include the George Washington School of Arts and Science in Sacramento, West Valley High School in Hemet, Thomas Jefferson High School in Los Angeles, and Leadership Public School Park in Oakland.
