The state agency responsible for overseeing collective bargaining rights for public school employees is investigating a complaint of unfair labor practices against Allan Hancock College.
The college’s part-time faculty association filed the complaint last September, alleging Hancock arbitrarily reduced the hours of several part-time counselors. The state’s Public Employee Relations Board (PERB) issued an official complaint on May 7.
Representatives from both the college and the association are scheduled to meet with PERB officials for an informal hearing in Southern California on June 20, a PERB spokesperson said. If they are unable to reach a settlement, PERB will schedule a formal hearing.
“PERB may make a ruling on that day or could request more info. We await the outcome of the PERB hearing,” Hancock’s public affairs director Rebecca Alarcio told the Sun in an e-mail.
Representatives for the part-time faculty association didn’t return phone calls as of press time.
