A handful of Nipomo High School students worked over a recent weekend to enhance the Nipomo Creekside Preserve. Local volunteers joined members of the high schoolās Progressive Club in an effort to help restore the preserveās natural processes. The club has been helping with workdays at the preserve since 2006.
Led by Land Conservancy Stewardship Assistant David Gonzalez, volunteers uprooted invasive plants, removed trash, and trimmed coyote brush. They sought to encourage the growth of new communities of plants and animals.
āThereās a great thing about this type of work: Anybody can pitch in,ā Gonzalez, a Nipomo High School graduate, said in a press release. āIt doesnāt take any special skill, just the common desire to see our special places protected.ā
The Land Conservancy established Nipomo Creekside Preserve in 2001. Located behind Adobe Plaza on Tefft Street, the public park features a restored native Central Coast habitat.
