The Santa Maria Recovery Learning Community (formerly known as The Hub) will soon be able to provide mental health services to a broader demographic in the community, thanks to a grant of more than $8,000 from the city of Santa Maria’s Community Development Block Grant program. The grant will help fund the recovery support program and increase services to local Spanish-speakers.

ā€œAs resources for many programs become more scarce, it’s grants like the one we received from Santa Maria CDBG that make the work we do at the Recovery Learning Community possible,ā€ Frank Ricceri, associate director at Transitions-Mental Health Association, said in a press release.

The Santa Maria Recovery Learning Community is a Transitions Mental Health Association program. The community-based nonprofit has been providing services in the county for 30 years, and 16 years in Santa Maria. The program offers social rehabilitation and vocational support at Growing Grounds Farm on West Foster Road, as well as housing to people throughout the city.

All of these services, along with support groups that encourage step-by-step action plans toward wellness, allow individuals with a mental illness to remain active in their community.

Transitions Mental Health Association provides help to more than 2,000 people and 1,500 families in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties.
According to the association’s website, its goal is to teach its clients independent living skills through personal empowerment and hands-on experience.
