The Allan Hancock College Board of Trustees recently appointed Elizabeth A. Miller as the college’s interim president for the 2012-13 school year. She will take over presidential duties on June 20, following the departure of current Superintendent/President José M. Ortiz.

Miller is the college’s associate superintendent/vice president for administrative services. She will lead the college while officials search for a permanent replacement for Ortiz. According to a press release from the college, Miller started working at Hancock in 1991 and has held her current position since 2004. She also served as vice president of administrative services and business services.

Prior to coming to Hancock, Miller was the business manager for El Camino Community College District in Torrance, Calif. She holds a doctorate from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, in educational policy, planning, and administration, specializing in finance and school-business management. She earned both a master’s degree and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Cal Poly, Pomona.

Ortiz will leave Hancock in mid-June to become the new chancellor of the Peralta Community College District in Oakland. He’s served as the district’s superintendent/president since July 2005.
