Fat Tuesday proved to be lucrative for St. Mary of the Assumption School, whose 10th annual Mardi Gras dinner, dance, and auction raised more than $20,000 for educational programs and infrastructure improvements.

About 200 community members attended the celebration, held at the Radisson Hotel. The event included a silent auction and, for the second year, a live auction called by Community Bank of Santa Maria president Jim Glines.

More than 150 items were auctioned, including vacations, services from local businesses, gift certificates, work by local artists, vintage clothing, wine, and class projects. The money raised will support a range of programs and infrastructure projects, such as a new reading program. It will also help keep tuition low so that a St. Mary’s education is affordable for everyone.

Founded in 1938, St. Mary of the Assumption School is the Santa Maria Valley’s oldest Catholic School.
