On the third Saturday of the month from 8:30 a.m. to noon Los Flores Ranch Park invites families to enjoy free Outside in Nature Play Days.Ā

On July 18, the mysteries just under our feet will be on display in Sand Secrets—Microhabitats for Invertibrates. A local expert from the Dunes Center will talk about the living conditions sand dunes create.Ā

On Aug. 15, families can meet John the beekeeper, who will provide information about bees, including the important role they play in the environment. He’s bringing a hive, honey, and real bees. Participants will have a chance to taste honey pollenated from different flowers.Ā

A live animal presentation is set for Sept. 19 with Eyes in the Sky Raptor Rescue, which will be at the park discussing the various birds that dot the local sky. Several birds—yes, raptors included—will be on hand for a meet-and-greet.Ā

Free round-trip transportation is available from the Abel Maldonando Community Youth Center. Call 925-0951, Ext. 260, to reserve your place on the shuttle. Driving directions are online at www.cityofsantamaria.org/city-government/departments/recreation-and-parks/get-active/los-flores-ranch-park.
