The Friends of the Los Alamos Public Library is having its annual Los Alamos Dog Races “Bark for Books” benefit event on July 1. All of the proceeds will go back to the library.

The races begin at 1:30 p.m. and feature six races in total. The first race is for dogs that are athletically challenged. The next four races depend on the height of the dogs, and there is a final championship race for all the first place winners of the previous races.

The event closes out with an award ceremony. Owners who want their dogs to participate must register for the race. There will be on-site registration the day of the event. Cost is $15.

Admission is free to those who just want to see the races. There will be a raffle for gifts given from local merchants, booths with items for sale, such as books, and local authors will be there for book purchases and signings. Ponies & Paints will also be at the event, offering pony rides and face painting for the children.

The event will take place at Ferrini Park in Los Alamos. More information is available at 895-4589.
