In a season of perceived economic uncertainty, there are people seeking to bring hope and stability through the staffing industry.
Kim Mundell opened an Express Employment Professionals office at 222 W. Carmen Lane, suite 102, in Santa Maria on Nov. 3, and business is already brisk.
“I have no doubts,” Mundell said. “This is a wonderful time to be opening a business, and I know we’re going to flourish.”
After years of helping with her family’s own staffing business, Mundell became a recruiter, and eventually worked in a job focusing on permanent placement for staffers.
Express Employment Professionals recently contacted her about opening an office in this area, and now she heads up the office that serves Santa Maria, Guadalupe, Nipomo, San Luis Obispo, and Paso Robles.
The staffing company as a whole has more than 600 offices and employs more than 350,000 people each year.
The system operates as a sort of matchmaker in the business world. People seeking work and employers seeking employees connect through the company. Mundell develops business contacts—from industrial to accounting to just about anything besides heavy construction—and Jennifer McNulty acts as staffing consultant. Together, they help arrange employment situations that span the range from temporary to permanent.
“We put people to work,” Mundell said.
