In June, the Teen Leadership Program graduated its first class of 33 local teens committed to affecting positive change in their community. Now, the program is looking for members of the class of 2010.

Organized by United Way of Northern Santa Barbara County and the Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Teen Leadership Program equips students with valuable leadership skills and teaches them how to apply those skills by becoming involved in their communities.

Teens accepted into the program will participate in a leadership and team building retreat, and then learn about specific issues such as law, government, health, and human services. Program members will also have an opportunity to explore potential career fields through hands-on experience.

Events for the Teen Leadership Program class of 2010 will begin in September. High school sophomores, juniors, and seniors are eligible.
