Seventh-graders at Lompoc Valley Middle School will have an opportunity to learn about career options and to meet local experts during a career day on Oct. 29 organized by the North County Volunteer Corps.
Students will rotate among classrooms to hear guest speakers talk about a wide range of career fields during the event, which will run from 12:15 to 2:45 p.m. It will be the volunteer corps’ first career day in the Lompoc area. The event is intended to enhance public education by helping students connect the outside world with what’s being taught in the classroom.

Based on students’ statements and requests, the main career interests at Lompoc Valley Middle School are in the medical, financial, hospitality, agricultural, and military fields.
The North County Volunteer Corps is a joint effort among the Santa Barbara County Education Office, the United Boys & Girls Club of Lompoc, and the Santa Maria Valley YMCA. The program is based on a similar program that’s been successful on the South Coast that is also administered by the county education office.
The goal is for the volunteer corps to serve as a hub for volunteer management in North County schools and youth-serving agencies.
