The Lompoc Police Department is always looking to better connect with the public. The department issued collectible “action hero” trading cards depicting some of its officers. Now they’re going digital.
In addition to protecting and serving, the LPD is a place to find bulletins, submit anonymous tips, get information on most wanted criminals, and find directions. But what if you’re nowhere near the police station and need a quick reference on all happenings at the LPD? Fortunately, there’s an app for that.
The LPD announced the launch of its new app at the Lompoc City Council meeting on Dec. 15.
According to LPD Sgt. Kevin Martin, the app is designed to improve critical two-way communications between the LPD, the residents of Lompoc, and anyone else wanting to be connected to the police department.
In addition to the aforementioned app functions, users can also use it to call the LPD directly, report graffiti, get access to the latest bulletins, and more—all with the touch of a screen.
When launching the app, the user is greeted with a short video tutorial, which can be skipped. It will ask for permission to use the location services on the phone.
Beware: If you refuse permission, the app will continually prompt the user with an error about three or four times. Also, the app doesn’t appear to have a privacy policy.
Nevertheless, the LPD will soon use the app for press releases, bulletins, alerts, and an event calendar.
The free app was developed by LogicTreeIT and is available for the iPhone, Windows, and Android app stores.
